We welcome new member Mike Atherton to the Club and trust he enjoys his membership with us. He has already made a good start by winning the Novice Cup.
HOYTSNorthlands Cinema Quiz: There were few entries for last month’s quiz, but only one was a winner. The correct answer as to who is the fourth producer of the film The Young Victoria is Sarah Ferguson, more popularly known as the Duchess of York. The winner was Mary McDonald. congratulations Mary. Your Hoyts double movie pass is on its way to you. Other answers included the title HRH, but she lost that when she and Andrew got divorced. Another answer submitted had Sarah miss-spelt and did not include her last name.
The question for this month is: The film An Education, a coming of-age drama based on a memoir by journalist Lynn Barber is set in the 1960s, but in which city? As there was only one winner last month, the second double movie pass will jackpot to this month. Entries can be emailed or posted to the Editor, Christchurch Video Maker, P O Box 2006, Christchurch, 8140, and should be received by October 26th . Entries are limited to one per member. The winners and result will be published in the next issue of the Christchurch Video Maker. As usual the Editor’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Video Tip: If you are using your camcorder as a video camera, (feeding to a separate recorder), and it shuts down after some time (this is built in to conserve the battery), try running it with the tape/DVD compartment door open.

Humour: How an Economic Stimulus Package works
It is the month of June, a resort town sits next to the shores of a lake. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit. Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 dollar bill on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one. The hotel proprietor takes the 100 dollar bill and runs to pay his debt to the butcher. The butcher takes the 100 dollar bill, and runs to pay his debt to the pig raiser. The pig raiser takes the 100 dollar bill, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel. The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 dollar bill and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute that in these hard times, gave her “services” on credit. The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 dollar bill to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she brought her clients there. The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 dollar bill back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.
At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms, and takes his 100 dollar bill, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism . And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how some governments are doing business today.
